Breaking New Ground: First Kidney Screening Camp with Specialist Support

Sohawa, a small tehsil along the Grand Trunk Road, and its surrounding villages have seen an alarming increase in kidney disease cases due to contaminated water, medication misuse, and uncontrolled hypertension. Despite these serious health challenges, the region has received minimal healthcare attention or resources - until now.

Naima Khan with Dr. Khalil ur Rahman, the dedicated nephrologist who volunteered his expertise for Sohawa's first-ever kidney screening camp

Throught your generous contributions and the invaluable assistance of a dedicated nephrologist Dr. Khalil , who volunteered their expertise, we successfully conducted Sohawa's first-ever free kidney screening camp. This historic event provided many residents their first opportunity to receive professional kidney function assessment.

Dr.Khalil’s presence made a crucial difference - allowing for immediate consultation and proper medical guidance that would otherwise be completely inaccessible to most community members.

"I had no idea these symptoms were connected to my kidneys. No one has ever brought such medical services to our village before." - Screening Camp Participant

Our comprehensive screenings included:

  • Kidney function blood tests

  • Urine analysis

  • Blood pressure monitoring

  • One-on-one consultations with the nephrologist

Urgent Need: Supporting Dialysis Patients

Right now, our most pressing focus is our dialysis patient support program serving Sohawa and surrounding villages. We currently have multiple patients waiting for critical medications, laboratory tests, and doctor consultations. These are not just patients - they are fathers, mothers, and young adults who serve as the sole breadwinners for their families in communities where alternative income sources are extremely limited.

The Financial Burden

The financial burden is crushing for these families. The specialized erythropoietin injections that dialysis patients require cost approximately 2,500-3,000 PKR per dose, with most patients needing multiple doses monthly. For a family already struggling with dialysis costs in an economically disadvantaged region, these additional expenses often mean choosing between medication and food.

One patient, a father of four who drives a rickshaw when he's well enough, told me:

"On the days after dialysis, I'm too weak to work. Without the medication, the weakness gets worse, but how can I choose between medicine and feeding my children? No one cared about our village's health problems before your program came."

For many breadwinners in these economically challenged communities, these costs represent more than their monthly income, forcing impossible choices for their families.

Gratitude for Your Support

I cannot express enough how grateful I am for each and every one of you who has contributed to this cause. Your generosity is bringing hope to a forgotten corner of Punjab where kidney disease has been silently devastating families for years. You are quite literally saving lives and preserving the dignity of entire families who previously had nowhere to turn.

Every contribution you make creates ripples of positive change throughout these communities - not just in treating kidney disease but in showing people that they matter and have not been forgotten. The smiles and prayers of gratitude I receive from patients and their families are truly for you.

I ask for your continued prayers and support as we work to meet these urgent needs.
